Disability Advice Project was delighted to support Carers Rights Day on 25 November at the new community wellbeing hub Ty Glas Y Dorlan in Thornhill, Cwmbran.

The event, dedicated to carers, saw a range of organisations attend, providing information and advice on the support available for carers and those they care for.

Carers had the opportunity to tour Ty Glas Y Dorlan. This new multipurpose wellbeing hub is fully accessible for people with disabilities. Refreshments were available and there was a chance to socialise and enjoy an uplifting performance from The Bois Y Bryn Sea Shanty Choir.

In addition to communal areas, the hub has six flats for long term tenancies and 13 for short stay guests. The accommodation features the latest smart technology and is designed to help tenants become independent. The hub will officially open in January and plans to offer advice, opportunities to socialise and develop new skills.

Torfaen Executive Member for Adult Services and Housing, Councillor David Daniels, said, “This Carers Rights Day, we wanted to empower carers with information and support, so they can feel confident asking for what they need and are able to access the support that is available as soon as they need it.”
